This article studies an algorithm to solve an optimal control problem in a reservoir-people epidemiological model.The main objective of this work is to identify optimal vaccination and treatment strategies that can be implemented while minimizing the material and human costs associated with the epidemic. To achieve this, we use the Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle, a mathematical result that provides the necessary conditions to find the characterization of the optimal control associated with ordinary differential equations.
Additionally, numerical simulations are performed to validate the proposed methodology. It provides a tool for decision-making and the efficient implementation of vaccination and treatment in epidemic scenarios, as well as facilitating the planning of responses to future public health crises.
